British Prime Minister Truss announced her resignation on the evening of Thursday (20th) local time. After only 45 days in office, she has also become the shortest-term prime minister in British history, breaking the record of 119 days written by former Prime Minister Canning.
The BBC reported that Truss has announced his resignation and Downing Street will issue a formal statement at a later date.
With Truss resigning, the ruling Conservative Party will once again elect its leader. Truss will remain prime minister until a successor is elected.
Britain's previous shortest-term prime minister was George Canning, who took office in 1827, and died of health problems after 119 days in office.
