Mar. 19 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen expressed his concern over the possibility of nuclear war after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The premier wrote in his Telegram Channel on Sunday morning (Mar 19).
"The ICC accusation against president Putin is a shocking political development with an extensive geopolitical impact in Europe and the world," the premier underscored.
According to Samdech, currently, 123 countries are members of the ICC, while major countries such as the US, Russia, India, and China are not. President Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the ICC in 2019. The ICC has no power to arrest any suspects without cooperating with the respective governments. The ICC arrest warrant will further separate the world as the world works together to address common global issues such as climate change and infectious diseases. On the contrary, the ICC arrest warrant could spark a nuclear war.
"I never believe nuclear war would take place despite the threat of nuclear weapons. I also urge all parties to be cautious about the use of nuclear weapons and to refrain from talking about the use of nuclear weapons, but now there is a backlash from the other side in the form of arrest warrants," the premier continued.
"President Putin is the only person with the right to launch a nuclear weapon and the leader of a nuclear power country with thousands of nuclear weapons." Samdech Techo added.
Samdech asked will Putin agree to be arrested without taking any action? If Putin is arrested, will those in charge of the country agree to arrest his president?
Lastly, Samdech pointed out that any threat to Putin clearly shows that nuclear war would erupt and first begin in Europe, including the ICC headquarters.
